I just read a research paper that was based on a survey conducted on the entire population of 381 senior officers in the Royal Navy with an 80% response rate. Pretty amazing response rate!
The research made an attempt to distinguish greatest factors of success (defined by the rate of advancement). The factors evaluated were:
- personality traits
- motivation
- intelligence

What I love the most about the research I read is that The Royal Navy is putting their money where their mouth is. They are going beyond simply conducting the assessment, they are actioning it. They now use psychometric-based assessments as part of the selection process for senior officers. Kudos to the RN!
