Excited to share that I will be joining Matt Greenfield, Andre Bennin, Bridget Duru, and Monique Malcolm-Hay Malcolm Hay as a full-time member of the Rethink Education Team.   Having come at education and workforce development from multiple angles in my career, this truly feels like coming home. I look forward to digging into themes like expanding access to higher education, supporting the justice-involved, investing in opportunities for rural communities, and advancing opportunity for women, especially single mothers.   Grateful as always to folks like Michael Walden, Rini Greenfield, and Tammy Mank Wincup Wincup who have been extraordinary mentors to me on my VC journey.   You can read more about Rethink's evolution below, and I always welcome a reconnect!

Yesterday was a tough day for a community I care deeply about. Last night, as I was lying awake in bed, my thoughts kept returning to this:

Value creation is how I measure achievement.

This was probably the least popular credo. So, naturally, it has always been my favorite.

It’s intimidating, right? What does value even mean? Is it only measured in dollars and cents—or, say, millions of dollars of VC money raised? Hardly. It's perhaps the opposite. For a young person just embarking on their career, it’s difficult to say what value you have created. Up until that point, so much of achievement culture is self-oriented and based on transparent and seemingly objective milestones like grades, test scores, and school selectivity. It can seem arrogant to assert you have created value.

I would posit that value is much more about what we do for others, and that it is far from contingent upon outward appearances of professional success. It’s about how we behave as teammates, friends, colleagues, family members, and partners. It's something anyone can do.

Today, I want to thank the people who created tremendous value in my life.

To my teammates Elizabeth Brake Sara (Williamson) Strasburg Cris Landa Keenan Corrigan Barrie Grinberg Leandra Elberger Jackie Miller Mandy Marcus Tom Griffin Lauren Nilles Megan Birkhead Laila Selim Helen Lynch Cathlin Carlson Isa Ballard Hannah Steinhardt Chelsea Hartney Elisabeth Tarullo Victor Bartash Keenan Covington Katherine Gledhill Sarah Craft Gulsun (Gu) Cavusoglu, LMSW Amanda Arroyo, MSW Ricardo Peña Julia Kortberg Betsye Moon Park Andrew J. Albert Brandon Mitchell Domenic Merolla Caroline Hatfield Caroline Toch Joey Balistreri Lauren Kahn, MBA Vanessa Macias Jason Tarre Bonnie Martinez Winson Law Catherine Levins Sarah Olivarez (and many others!) – your careers and actions speak to your values and your integrity. Thank you for your dedication.

To the community of young people who trusted us with their futures, thank you. You continue to create value and opportunity for each other every day. You inspire me.

To the leaders that supported us, thank you for taking a risk on us idealistic upstarts. Our work has just begun.
