Andre Chow

Vice President & GM, Digital Surgery at Medtronic

Andre Chow is a surgeon, entrepreneur, and co-founder of Touch Surgery, a mobile-based surgical training platform. He graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2004 and trained as a general surgeon.1 In 2013, Chow co-founded Touch Surgery with Jean Nehme to address problems in surgery through technology.1

Touch Surgery was acquired by Medtronic, a global leader in medical technology, in February 2020.2 Following the acquisition, Chow remained with the company as part of the executive team.2 It's likely that his current role as Vice President at Medtronic is a result of this acquisition and his continued leadership in the company.

Chow has a background in surgical technology, with a BSc in Surgical Technology and a Ph.D. in Stem Cell and Biomedical engineering completed in 2013.1 His work with Touch Surgery focused on using artificial intelligence, data analytics, and digital education to improve surgical training and procedures.2

Under Chow's leadership, Touch Surgery raised significant funding, including a total of $40 million before being acquired by Medtronic for $500 million.3 The technology developed by Touch Surgery is now being used to co-develop systems for AI and data analytics in laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgery.3
