Under Ippolito's leadership, SimpliFed has raised $10.5 million in funding, including a recent $4 million round in February 2025 to expand their maternal care at home platform.6 The company has shown promising results, with 87% of SimpliFed patients continuing to breastfeed at 3 months, compared to the national average of 69%.6

I honestly could not applaud an article more. Since my third daughter was born, I have had to travel several times as the CEO of a start-up. The one-two punch of 1) figuring out childcare while traveling AND 2) figuring out how pump to protect MY physical (and mental health) with preventing engorgement and mastitis (i.e. infection) is enormous. Most of professional society has been designed around men despite women being HALF of the workforce. As an example, I have attended #hlth twice with two separate kiddos and both times the pumping room was at least a 10-minute walk away from the main part of the conference and locked after walking for 10 minutes. When you have to pump every 2-3 hours, this is an enormous amount of wasted time. Not to mention, there is 1 room for THOUSANDS of people. When we talk about the lack of women in leadership roles, we often cite the lack of VC funding to female founders and the lack of US policy surrounding VITAL support like paid parental leave and universal childcare support (and honestly we need to keep talking about it over and over again). Along with this policy infrastructure, we need additional types of infrastructure about how work is designed that is often missing to support women and parents in the workplace. Thank you Tara Bannow and STAT for shining a spotlight on this!
Let's be honest. Support for parents has an incredibly long way to go in this country without paid parental leave and universal childcare support. However there have been some glimmers of hope in the last year. Systemic change takes time and it is critical that parents know their rights under federal law. At SimpliFed, a huge focus of ours is making sure parents know that they have access to baby feeding support as a covered benefit at NO COST TO THEM starting during pregnancy.
