Andrea Marpillero-Colomina is a seasoned professional with over a decade of experience in research focusing on infrastructure, policy, and place, displaying expertise in mixed methods qualitative research conducted internationally. As a dedicated public intellectual, Andrea is committed to enhancing our comprehension of urban dynamics and what facilitates cities to function effectively for their inhabitants. Her career has taken her across various countries, including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Italy, Jordan, Sweden, and the United States.
With a strong academic background, Andrea pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) at New School University, a Master's Degree at The New School, an MS at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation, and a BA at Sarah Lawrence College. She is deeply invested in education and has taught numerous undergraduate and graduate students in self-designed courses at public and private universities in New York.
Andrea's passion lies in devising innovative and inclusive strategies to optimize urban environments for their residents, with a specific focus on promoting equity, anti-racism, sustainable infrastructure, and creating vibrant public spaces.
Throughout her career, Andrea Marpillero-Colomina has held various key positions in prestigious organizations. She served as a Robert David Lion Gardiner Fellow at the New-York Historical Society. Additionally, she has worked as an Adjunct Professor at The New School, a Contract Research Associate at the University of Pennsylvania, a Research Consultant at Gehl Institute, an Adjunct Lecturer in International Affairs at the City University of New York, a Qualitative Research Consultant at MDRC, and an Adjunct Lecturer at Macaulay Honors College at The City University of New York, among other roles.
Notably, Andrea has also contributed to urban planning and research through positions such as Public Programs Coordinator at The New School, Urban Planning + Historic Preservation Communications Coordinator at Columbia University, Urban Planning Research Scholar at Columbia University, and Research Associate on the Amman Master Plan project at Columbia University.
