Good afternoon,
A bittersweet day for me as it is my last working day at Ooredoo today.
Very mixed emotions being grateful for your support, excited about the future and a lot of nostalgia.
When I joined “Qtel” in October 2009 as a much younger man, flip phones were all the rage. When I cleaned up my desk yesterday, I found a Blackberry which reminded me of how many things have changed.
In 2009 Vodafone had just launched their business in Doha, followed by a short-lived appearance of Virgin in Qatar. Sheikh Ali was a Specialist in the legal department, Sheikh Mohammed Senior manager Finance in charge of the budget for Qtel Qatar.
Fast forward 58 Quarters results (I joined every results call), approximately 1000 investor meeting, around 100 conferences, one rebranding from Qtel to Ooredoo, four IPOs (Oman, Palestine, Iraq and the Maldives), 3 CEOs, 2 CFOS, 8 out of 10 Ooredoo marathons (I missed one, and didn’t finish another one), more of my birthdays spent with Gopal than with my wife, courses in Arabic, Bahasa and Chinese, around twenty IR awards, half a dozen Capital Market Days, issuance of multiple billion dollar bonds (dial) and Sukuks, the IOH merger and the most recent tower, DC and Fintech spin off plans.
We came a long way if we look back at the first presentations, which still included audio only calls and a big book of papers, like a Quarterly results “bible” for every spokesperson compared to now automated PowerPoint decks linked to accounting systems, pre-recorded video presentations and digital speaker packs.
The level of investor disclosure supported by the Finance, commercial, legal/regulatory, technology and Strategy teams is certainly leading in the region. Investor calls and equity/debt conferences with Aziz and Addulla are on par with some of the best international companies.
The future might bring automatically written annual reports, investor presentations & result releases and AI generated IR and ESG bods to answer investor questions.
I leave the developments of these in the capable hands of my successors for IR, Luelle Pillay and Ahmed Al Naama for ESG.
I know they can count on the same strong support from the Ooredoo teams in Doha and across all the markets that I have enjoyed in the last almost 15 years.
I am very grateful for the patience and backing from the sell side analysts, corporate access teams, the buy side investors, the rating agencies and ESG project teams.
So, I want to take the opportunity to thank you for your support and share my private contact details, hoping to stay in touch.
My email address is [email protected] and my phone number remains +974-33191441.
Positive feedback and or endorsements of skills (e.g., IR, IPOs, ESG) on LinkedIn are always welcome.
Happy Easter, wishing you all the best and do stay in touch!
Andreas Goldau
