I am excited to share that I have joined Meta! I will be part of the Cross-Meta Integrity team, working on Integrity across Facebook, Instagram, Reality Labs and Workplace. I will be focussing on Actor Integrity & Compromise – this is such a challenging and complicated space, in support of every single one of the billions of people across the world using Meta’s products. I am so thrilled to be joining a team with such a meaningful and impactful mission.

I am stoked to be joining Meta at this point in time – there is definitely a lot of uncertainty, and more changes to come, however that’s exactly why I think this is the perfect time to join. I am looking forward to being part of shaping and contributing to this next chapter of Meta’s journey.

So far my first week and a half have been pretty awesome. New Hire Orientation was great, with a lot of emphasis on diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility. Engineering Bootcamp has been really fun – all new hires like myself are given the freedom to pick up work across any area of interest. So far I’ve picked up and worked on tasks across Instagram Ads, Workplace Virtual Workrooms calendaring, internal tooling and next up I am looking to do some Python in the context of FAIR (Facebook AI Research)!

I couldn’t be happier to be embarking on this journey!

The end of 2022 was pretty wild at Twitter. After the acquisition, there is no better way to describe things other than “pure chaos”. I was at Twitter for roughly three weeks post-acquisition – I was not impacted by the layoffs, though on the 17th of November when we were given the option to stay on or take voluntary severance, I chose to leave Twitter.

Those three weeks that I stayed on were filled with anxiety and uncertainty. As one of the leads of the Web Community, I put all my time and energy towards supporting folks across the Web Community and beyond. Complex feature requests with extremely tight deadlines were coming from all directions. People were stressed, worried about their jobs and the repercussions of missing deadlines.  I hardly slept and worked 14 hour days, including weekends. I did all I could alongside my colleagues to ensure Twitter users were at the center of the work we were doing. Through those three weeks though, I could see that this was a losing battle. One of the values of Twitter past, defending and respecting our user’s voice, was long gone. My values were no longer aligned with Twitter’s new values and aspirations.

I spent close to 8 incredible years at Twitter, and was lucky enough to work with countless kind, smart, empathetic and diverse people. I grew and learnt so much about myself. I feel so fortunate to have had so many incredible managers and mentors who challenged me and helped me grow. If I told my younger self in 2015, when I first joined Twitter, that I’d get to be a Senior Staff Engineer and become the Consumer Web Group Tech Lead, my jaw would probably drop.

Having had a few months to process and mourn the unexpected end to an epic journey, I am finally at a place where I am able to look back and cherish all the wonderful memories and accomplishments.

I am looking forward to starting something new next week.
