This article is a personal observation:
Cubicles are such an oddity; I often wonder why the Marine Corps accepts this structure while at the same time actively suppressing its natural combat tendencies. This article proposes that by embracing what is natural and right, we can unleash next-level Marine Corps productivity via individual and team engagement. The Marine Corps has the tools to create the environment, so let's stop trying to model failed corporate structures and start being Marines.
I had a lot of fun writing this article and thinking about an environment that would make me enjoy showing up to work every day. So, if you like the idea of reading a brief history of cubicles, random Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy references, Elon Musk quotes, and Marine Corps structure, then welcome home; Have Work-Will Travel is the read for you!
Finally, I am #thankful to the Marine Corps Gazette for embracing my writing and diligently working with me through the publication process. The Gazette is truly an asset for all Marines, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a storied publication.

I am #thankful for the opportunity to collaborate with my colleague Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Borrego on this #talentmanagement article in the May issue of the Marine Corps Gazette.
This article aims to offer practical solutions for effective talent management and retention of top-performing Marines within the Corps. By moving away from rigid “if A then B” processes and preventing Monitors from solely relying on system infrastructure, we can improve retention rates of the most qualified individuals. It is important to note that not all Marines require targeted retention efforts, and a tailored approach may be necessary. Join me in exploring the strategies that can help retain the Marine Corps’ top talent.
