"If 💵 money 💵 didn't matter, what would you be doing with your life?" Have you ever been asked this? It's a basic coaching question that helps people explore their dreams, passions, aspirations, values, desires, and more. Too often we shut down our yearnings because we feel so much scarcity with our money, time, and energy.
By the same logic, I have a "pay what you can" policy for my coaching services. I would rather have people be in a meaningful inquiry about what coaching could do for them, than shut down possibilities because they can't afford it.
The deeper truth is coaching can bring about feelings of remorse and shame, because it often forces you to look at what are you doing - or not doing - with your life. Are you just getting by? Have you given up on your ambitions? Have you really explored your potential? For some, these are confronting questions and they would rather stay in denial than face the truth.
And so why would you want a coach poking at your denial and pushing you to look harder at the gap between where you are and where you want to be? It's easier to "shoot the messenger" - so to speak - and shoot down a coaching conversation before it even starts. It's easier to dismiss it as too expensive and not for you.
I take the "it's too expensive" excuse off the table, so you can truly wrestle with the question for yourself: how could having a coach (aka trusted advisor, accountability partner, respected council, safe sounding board, objective champion, sage observer, active listener, insightful truth-teller, etc.) serve me? How much closer could I get to my hope and dreams if I let others in to support me?

Here's something that made my brain hurt. Read these two headlines:
1️⃣ Median CEO pay hit $16.3 million in 2023, or nearly 200 times the typical worker’s wages for the year, according to data analyzed for The Associated Press by Equilar. https://lnkd.in/g4s6ApSP
2️⃣ A 2023 survey conducted by edx finds nearly half (49%) of CEOs believe most or all of their role should be automated or replaced by AI. https://lnkd.in/gXc_AU4a
Two sets of data, so perhaps it's an apples to oranges kind of comparison. And are we talking CEOs of Fortune 500 companies or CEOs of smaller organizations? And what parts of their role do they think can be automated or replaced by AI? So undoubtedly more investigation is needed to jump to any major conclusions, but here's why my head hurts:
If CEOs think they can be replaced by AI, why are they also paid so much? Good CEOs are highly valued (and thus highly paid) supposedly for their dynamic leadership abilities, strategic superpowers, and bold decision making. They are a rare breed of humans that can mold business complexities into profits. Are we saying this "cult of personality" is overrated? That their unique talents can actually be coded into a learning model? That with enough data and the right prompts, we all could be a Tim Cook or Jeff Bezos? Or - even more radical - can all Fortune 500 companies be operated by artificial intelligence?
There is much hope and speculation surrounding AI. Billions of dollars are being invested now with the promise of massive profits later (less employee costs, more efficiencies, technological dominance, etc.). So far we are still waiting for those returns. Yet if AI can truly replace CEOs and therefore their big salaries, then there is still hope that AI will produce major savings and ROI!
