Advice to men in their 20s:
-
Invest in your long-term self. Never stop learning and never stop networking with people you can learn from. Never underestimate the value of knowledge and relationships (or sacrifice that value for short-term financial gain).
-
Backpack solo at least once, ideally more. You’ll be forced to rely on yourself, put yourself out there, and more. Some of my best life lessons and memories come from these trips 20yrs ago.
-
Cut your monthly spending as much as possible - and invest as much as you can monthly. You don’t need a fancy car, you don’t need fancy clothes, you don’t need a fancy watch. Watch your money compound over time and truly treat yourself (and your loved ones) later in life.
-
Respect your elders. Hold that door open, carry those groceries, mow that lawn. Life experience is priceless and should be cherished. I learn a lot about life from some of my oldest friends (that I met via kind acts)- many have a sense of clarity I didn’t have until my 40s.
-
Learn to fix things yourself. Every-time something breaks try to DIY (with the exception of electrical work). It’s so easy now with YouTube and you’ll save a ton over the years you can then also invest. Plus I’ll respect you a whole lot more.
-
Believe in yourself. I didn’t come from money and I made minimum wage until age 27. I’m now more successful than all my friends that became bankers, lawyers, and doctors. Be relentless, be resilient, but always be kind.
