Andrew Western

Andrew Western is currently the Head of Department of Infrastructure Engineering and Chair of Hydrology and Water Resources at the Melbourne School of Engineering, University of Melbourne. With over 25 years of teaching and consulting experience in catchment and waterway research, hydrology, water resources, hydraulics, and related disciplines, he is deeply involved in exploring the availability of water resources. His research includes developing various catchment and water models, focusing on water quality, groundwater analytics, flood modeling, and understanding the impacts of prolonged drought and climate change on catchment response. Andrew Western's expertise extends to delivering innovative solutions in catchment management, groundwater resources, catchment monitoring, water resources management, and stream water quality.

Andrew Western's educational background includes a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Civil Engineering and a Bachelor of Economics from Monash University. He also pursued his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Engineering at the University of Melbourne and attended Leongatha High School.

In the past, Andrew Western has held positions as a Professor and Director of Infrastructure at the Melbourne School of Engineering and as a Professor and deputy Head of Department in the Department of Infrastructure Engineering at the University of Melbourne.
