Andy Baker
Professor at UNSW Australia
Andy Baker is a research scientist and professor at UNSW Sydney.15 His LinkedIn username is andy-baker-939a4a2a.2 He is an interdisciplinary scientist with connections to environmental and earth sciences and engineering, applying these to speleothem palaeoenvironmental research.1 Baker is highly regarded in speleothem science and was made a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union in 2021 in recognition of his contributions.1 In 2024, he was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of New South Wales.3
Baker's research focuses on the intersection between geology and water, from caves to aquifers.3 He uses stalagmites to reconstruct past climates, groundwater recharge, and fire history. He also characterizes organic matter in natural and human environments, from groundwater to drinking water.3 His work combines the analysis of cave stalagmites, underground hydrological monitoring, and climate hydrological modelling to determine when groundwater replenishment occurred in the past, present, and future.4
