Excited to share that our review on fluid preservation in brain banking has just been published. We analyzed 197 observations from 91 studies, detailing how different preservatives affect cell morphology and biomolecular stability over time. A huge thank you to everyone on our team for their efforts:

Johann Danzl's group at IST Austria just published what I suspect will be groundbreaking work on light-microscopy based connectomics. Why is this a big deal? It incorporates molecular information directly into synapse-level brain tissue reconstructions. In one demo, they reconstructed ~1 million cubic micrometers of mouse somatosensory cortex with high tracing reliability.

Even more impressive -- they can use immunostaining to identify biomolecule distribution, cell types, and map chemical & electrical synapses. Debates about whether it would ever be feasible to gather the data necessary for detailed models of the brain are quickly becoming outdated with these rapid advances in expansion microscopy.
