Highlights
Layoffs are especially dangerous for marginalized people:
- They're less likely to have a cushion of resources to fall back on. This puts them in a riskier position short-term.
- Because of (1) they're more likely to feel pressured to accept a new offer without full visibility on whether it will be an inclusive environment (or even if they know it will be a hostile environment). This puts them in a riskier position long-term.
A phrase you'll hear a lot at Form Energy is "default to open". And we extend that philosophy to candidates too. You can check out our diversity stats at https://lnkd.in/gY4XKCTi, broken down by gender, race, team, and management level. It's not everything you'll want to know to determine whether you'll feel safe and secure at Form, but hopefully it's a start.
And if you're applying to an open role on Software Engineering (full jobs board at https://lnkd.in/dUiaWiuB), know that you'll have me in your reporting chain to advocate for you. Come build big batteries with us and decarbonize the grid!
Layoffs suck. Worrying about layoffs sucks. But there's a sector where the fundamentals are only getting stronger -- climatetech!
The 2022 Inflation Reduction Act increased the financial security of the whole climatetech sector, particularly for companies with a hardware/manufacturing angle. And the best hardware startups know that they need an excellent software team too.
If you're on the market or think you might be soon, Form Energy is hiring across our software team. Check out the Staff Software Eng role on LI, and other roles (Eng Manager, Product Manager, etc) at https://lnkd.in/dUiaWiuB. We'll have more roles coming soon, so if you don't see the right role for you, let me know how you want to apply your software background to researching, manufacturing, deploying, or operating multi-day battery storage!
And if climatetech is your thing but batteries aren't, I recommend Work on Climate for a great community of peers who want to move to climatetech.
