Every election cycle, my cell phone lights up with texts from candidates seeking my money. Then the fliers start piling up in my mailbox, and commercials roll before my favorite YouTube cooking show. It’s all a reminder of how many resources go into campaigns. It’s evidence of how amply private interests will fund campaigns for public office, and how sophisticated tactics can funnel the right message to the vulnerable voter. Most of all, it shows that your vote is a reflection of the information you have on hand.

That’s why our job at Willamette Week is so important this year, and why your support - a now vital revenue stream for our journalism - is so critical. Whether or not you agree with where we land on an issue or candidate, we will be reporting all summer and fall on the issues our city is facing, how the upcoming elections will work, and explaining every side of each campaign, presenting the strongest arguments on either side.

If you believe this information is important and understand what’s at stake without local journalism in an election cycle, I hope you’ll contribute to our Spring Drive. Or, sign up for our Daily Newsletters and get informed!
