So it's IWD 2023 ... let's ask, what's really changed?
Life goes on - with all its ups and downs.
For all the wonderful women out there - mums, sisters, daughters, aunts, grannies, wives, friends, employers/ees, carers - whatever role the 50% happens to take on. I salute you, for juggling and continuing to pioneer the need for change. For thinking about this journey of life (and work, to pay for it all), a little differently.
For allowing and facilitating change.
To the world of work, the needle needs to shift please ...
This is my octagenarian Dad, who fell last week - smashed his face, carved out a whole in his arm and broke and cut a finger, partially knocking the nail off.
Could have happened to so many other Octagenarians - probably has. And will.
In just a couple of hours, my life and that of several around me, had to pivot, so that I could get there to help my Dad, my Mum, my sister, on the long healing journey. My octagenarian Mum has also got sick, from the shock and stress of it all. Plus a rather late night at A&E (where care was amazing) getting home after 3am. Follow on care plan in place. Yet the daily support needed to keep the wheels in motion ...
How does our society allow for life - for the reality of what life involves, for community?
All those invisible actions, caring hours, maybe even 'productivity'?!
Thank you to those trying to nudge the needle for #workstyle #flexibleworking #agile so that I need not "FREElance" (and have to negotiate a better pay) to be able to help my folks, to support and raise my family, to role model to my own daughters how to live better, how to be a better version, in each moment of this rollercoaster called life.
I'm tired but determined ... this has to change, faster. For us all. This isn't a female thing, it's a society thing. It's everywhere. It affects everyone. In marketing speak, it's a universal truth.
So please can this IWD really accelerate the agenda, so when (hopefully) I'm an octagenarian - falling in the street - my daughters' experience of it all is a little smoother, a little more supported, a little easier. That they can continue to work - travel - live - care - support - mentor - learn - befriend - role model - change - improve - rest. Thank you to all the change-makers. #community #work #freelance #workstyle #lifestyle
What do you think about #WorkStyle - how can this work in practice? What are the risks to companies of embracing workstyle - or of not considering workstyle, in the race for talent? Interested in your thoughts & opinions! No matter where you are ...
