I have been absolutely thrilled to have had some amazing and instructive meetings over the past few weeks with well-established architects and UK government teams. They all highlighted London as a shining creative beacon to the rest of the world. Honestly, I was quite shocked.
In my last post, I mentioned how London has lost much of its momentum and talents. The cost of living has more than doubled, making it prohibitively expensive for any of us to live and work here, and clients have cut their budgets or rescheduled projects. There is a massive gap between what the government and creative bodies portray and the reality on the ground...
Several creative summits are coming up in June / July, and it’s fascinating to see how much they charge to participate (around £400) and the speakers list (all government bodies or large creative agencies).
Where are the middle companies, the upcoming talents? The people who are truly driving the industry aren’t represented. The goliaths are being asked how they are doing, and unsurprisingly, they are doing just fine. But if you ask freelancers, small to medium companies or architects or galleries, and newly established artists, you’ll hear a different story: it’s a debacle! Many companies have had to close, and many of us are chasing the few pounds available. On a positive note, we are more determined than ever to come together and change things. But we need to be more vocal to fight for what we are creating and building! Let's raise our voices and make a difference!
