It is all happening at #BIO23 here in beautiful Boston. This week I was delighted to talk with @mrkrudd, our new Ambassador to the USA as well as @BensonSaulo, Australian Consul-General & Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner – Houston.

Our nation has embarked on a mission to diversify our economy, and it is clear that biotechnology plays a pivotal role in achieving this goal. With our exceptional expertise spanning various domains and regions, the biotech sector serves as the engine room for driving the much-needed diversification. The numbers themselves speak volumes!
2. Today, we have over a quarter of a million Australians employed in the biotech industry, and this is just the beginning of an incredible journey. The Australian biotech industry is a global powerhouse with our very own corporate brands shining on the world stage. The possibilities are boundless!
3. Australia's biotech industry has now achieved critical mass, a feat that would have been unimaginable twenty years ago. The metrics speak for themselves. For instance, our contribution to global clinical trials is astounding, with 11% of all trials taking place in Australia. This success is a testament to the sophistication of our universities, the brilliance of our academics, and the dedication of our independent medical research institutes.
4. The health systems of Australia are an extraordinary blend of public and private sectors, set a high standard by global measures. They provided the foundation for the remarkable progress we see today. This hybrid system has made it possible for our biotech industry to flourish and thrive.
5. The stories from our the biotech sector are extraordinary. Many start from humble beginnings and growing exponentially and are truly inspiring. Often driven by sheer determination, many of you have transformed small operations into thriving companies employing 130 staff members and poised to employ thousands more. These success stories epitomize the potential of brand Australia in the future.
6. To support this transformative journey, we have an abundant pool of domestic capital seeking investment opportunities at home and abroad. It is time for venture capitalists to raise their voices and invest more boldly in the biotech sector, turning it into a thriving and prosperous industry for Australia.
