Today: Packed calendars, hyper-responsiveness, and missed deadlines.

Tomorrow: Clear priorities, project momentum, and no more than 12 hours of meetings per week.

Teams WANT to do the work that matters, but their calendars are getting in the way. At the Teamwork Lab run by Molly Sands, PhD we've been studying how modern work happens. And we learned that when teams design their calendars with new habits including reduced meetings, better async practices and reserved time for focus, they make more progress, faster, and feel more energized.

For the past 12 months we've been deeply studying how work happens in modern companies — and we're working to make more of what we've learned available to you. So this week, we launched a free Atlassian University course on how to redesign your workweek.

Looking for days that are full of focus + impact and light on meetings? This course will teach you how to take control of your calendar and invest your time like the asset it is.

If you want the most out of AI: have a conversation, don’t just tell it what to do.

Many people are (successfully!) using AI to automate tasks. They make an input command: “summarize this text” and get an output: the summary.

But AI is even more effective when you offer it an ambiguous problem, treating AI as your teammate to co-create a solution — asking it questions and refining your needs through an organic, plain language conversation.

Yesterday, I offered “it” (one of the LLMs available through our internal LLM playground) a problem I was trying to solve with my team — can you help me find an analogy that a 6th grader could understand to help my team understand this issue better? Ok, can you refine the analogy to be a little more modern? Within 2-3 minutes, I had a clever analogy that would have taken me days to come up with on my own. Often it takes me time (and agony!) to be creative. AI lowers the stakes and helps unblock my thinking, fast.

Our head of AI Sherif Mansour says that when using AI, “People are used to a system interaction, you press a button and get a response.” But the reality is, “You can converse with AI just like you would with a teammate.”

We’ve spent so much of our lives on computers memorizing commands so that we can work with a computer efficiently. Now, technology speaks * our * language. Time to get chatty.
