TL;DR--our small and crazy team of myself and the best people I could ever ask the universe for has somehow managed to pivot, hustle, and scramble--and successfully raise and contribute enough of our own share to become co-founding partners of Zhaojing New Energy's second official EV station in Guangzhou, China.

In 2021, my incredible friend, role model, and idol Tyler Heggans and I pitched to a VC firm with an ambitious idea to expand on a greener future. To put it fancily and optimistically: we did not get the funding. But it did remind me why I've fought so hard in the past: to build things and empower others on this insane and sometimes miserable, but largely rewarding, journey that we call entrepreneurship.

We faced a lot of ups and downs, from the sober reality of the EV market in the US to forces in the market outside of our control to just the fact that we're 20 year olds trying to make our vision into a reality. But that's kind of the exciting part, as young people who care so much about one single dream. So we crowdsourced and marketed and pitched to as many people as we could.

Again, this is not intended to be the most spectacular announcement ever. We're not even close to achieving our original pitch of expanding greener energy. Rather, we're one step closer to learning more and I'm extremely proud that we have a starting opportunity to understand business operations firsthand and be a part of greener energy growth.

Thank you to Zhaojing New Energy for being incredibly collaborative and generous partners, to all the supporters who rally behind our mission and make things like crowdsourcing the incredible force that it is, and to our team who stuck through my random phone calls and 14-hour time-difference video conferences. Later this year, we'll be making an exciting trip to Guangzhou, China as part of the in-person opening and I'm excited to wrangle more people into experiencing something that I think is pretty dang awesome.

In the meantime, our small team will also continue simultaneously working on our domestic platform BabbleQ (www.talkbabble.com) where we help other startups and people with any side passion to share, build, and aggregate knowledge.

If you're feeling a little stunted or stuck or looking to make a jump, hit me up (misery--the good kind--loves company).

As of April, I am so excited and honored to announce that the Mayor and City of Seattle have officially confirmed my appointment onto the City of Seattle’s Community Technology Advisory Board!

I had always grown up tech-adjacent: cobbling together game blocks in Scratch, learning all I could after my grade school computer classes ended at typing skills, and trying to transition my high school newspaper to digital using bootstrapped HTML. Most importantly, I saw how tech enabled translation and bridged connections between my mom and my home-city of Chicago, which helped her find and give me the opportunities that have made me into the person I am today. Since then, I knew I wanted to help further tech as a tool to empower equity and opportunity, especially for kids and young people just trying to find themselves and their passions.

It is an incredible privilege to join the ranks of CTAB Chair Camille Malonzo and Co-Chair Femi Adebayo, who have already taught me so much about how to be a good leader and how to champion for digital equity. I am so thankful to the YMCA Get Engaged program headed by Leslie Horton, who coordinated this amazing initiative to give young people a voice. Finally, I’m thrilled to get to know the rest of the Get Engaged Cohort some of whom I was lucky enough to meet during our confirmation meeting (cute virtual pic, right?)—all passionate and smart young people looking to make a difference. To a great year!
