Finally, I got the time to bid adieu to one of the best film education channels that have ever existed in India - Film Companion.

Why I call it an education channel and not a "content" channel because that would mean minimizing all these years of hard work put into carefully nurturing a whole generation of film critics, journalists and also informing the general public on how to appreciate cinema.

When other "entertainment" channels were only interested in the daily diets and make-up regimes of an actor, FC showcased the artistic process that goes behind creating a character; when other channels were busy ignoring the writers, directors, cinematographers, editors et al, it was FC that gave them centerstage and threw light on the army that lies behind creating great cinema.

I remember watching FC videos and being able to see the human intellect behind the artists in this industry; FC truly articulated this intellect behind a writer's process, an artist's craft and a director's vision. And now many of us know how to speak cinema and all credit goes to FC!

Anupama Chopra, as a fellow entrepreneur, I want to acknowledge and appreciate the effort that you have so passionately put into building Film Companion - nurturing a generation of film critics and educating people on how to appreciate cinema - is no small feat. Thousands of people in India will see cinema differently, hundreds of filmmakers will improve the way they make films and finally cinema, a critical soft power, will emerge from India. And FC would have been one of the catalysts in this transformational journey of Indian cinema.

Unfortunately, we have not yet come up with ways to quantify qualitative impact and hence numbers are what we take refuge in to validate a business. But trust me, the business side of things pale in front of the priceless impact of Film Companion on impressionable minds.

Film Companion was not just a content channel, it was a movement and I am sure wherever Anupama goes next, she will take the movement with her.

All the best!
