Anthony DeBarros is a data news editor at The Wall Street Journal's Washington, D.C. bureau, specializing in gathering and analyzing data for stories and investigations.31 He has been in this role since September 2018.1 DeBarros is a veteran journalist with over two decades of experience in data journalism, combining skills in journalism and computer science.12
DeBarros graduated from Marist College in 1986 with a degree in English and later earned a master's degree in information systems from the same institution.1 His career began at the Poughkeepsie Journal, where he worked in various roles including reporter and editor.1 He then moved to USA Today in 1997, where he eventually became senior database editor and managed a team of data journalists.1
Throughout his career, DeBarros has been involved in numerous award-winning projects. At the Wall Street Journal, he contributed to a project titled "China: Emergence of a Trade Leviathan," which won a bronze medal from the Society for News Design.1 His work has also received honors including a Silver Baton from the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards.2
