This Black History Month and every month, we emphasize the importance of a just and equitable energy transition by ensuring that Black entrepreneurs are included in this unprecedented multi-trillion dollar economy ahead. Without representation in our industry, we unequivocally believe that there will not be a complete solve for the energy transition. Yet currently less than 1% of Black climate tech founders receive VC funding (follow Dominic-Madori Davis for more) and similarly, 1% of Black businesses receive corporate supply chain spend in the Energy, Utilities & Waste industry (Supplier.io).

That’s why Energy Impact Partners created the Elevate Future Fund, a $111m fund focused on providing capital and galvanizing support for underrepresented entrepreneurs in the climate and energy industry. We are proud to invest in inspiring leaders such as Kameale C. Terry and Evette Ellis at ChargerHelp! and Garry Cooper at Rheaply, who are developing novel solutions in climate while keeping diversity at the forefront of their organizations.

Our work has given us the privilege of meeting with several inspiring Black founders targeting big problems in transport decarbonization, CCUS, energy storage, agriculture and more. Below is a map of companies we’ve connected with or researched to celebrate their achievements and drive awareness to the work they are doing to bring forth a more sustainable and inclusive future. We remain excited about what’s to come from these founders and how our ecosystem can lean in to elevate these businesses beyond just capital.

We recognize this is far from a comprehensive list and invite our network, friends, VCs, accelerators and others to highlight who’s missing by filling out the form in the comment section. Special shoutout to these incredible founders and many more on this list!
