Today would have been my 20 year relationship anniversary! 20 on the 20th. Instead, it’s a day of personal celebration.

In December 2023, I made the courageous decision to leave my ex husband. In the almost 7 months of being separated (and soon officially divorced), I’ve learned so much about myself, what I need and what I want. Being single is challenging but also insightful.

Why post this on LinkedIn?

Too many times in the “professional world”, we separate work from personal as if our personal experiences don’t impact how we show up in the office. Additionally, the narratives we have about women in leadership pushes a lot of us to only share perfection or being “balanced”. But we struggle like everyone else. I struggled for years and, authentically, these 7 months haven’t been a cake walk. But I’m still showing up the best I can. And that’s all we can do.

Situations like this force us to understand who we’ve evolved into and what this new version of yourself needs and wants. A lot of people will have their own personal narratives that they would want you to fill, but ultimately it’s about you.

So instead of celebrating 20 years of coupleship, I’m celebrating me.

Plus, I’m lucky enough to know that God has me. I’ll marry again one day. My one is out there for me just like I’ll be right here for them. The beauty in that union will be the what I need for me and what they will need for them. I’m euphoric thinking about it. 🥰

Yall have a blessed week and don’t forget to love yourself while you’re spending time loving others. 😘😘

Last year, Creative Reaction Lab (CRXLAB) was among the 24 non-profits awarded a grant through MetLife Foundation’s Accelerating Commitment to Equity Innovation Fund (ACE Innovation Fund). Next week, I’m headed to New York City to meet and learn from leaders in our ecosystem and experts in the field who are tackling the income and wealth divide. Looking forward to sharing more as the #ACEConvening kicks off!
