Highlights
When I first arrived in Antwerp in October 2020, my cab driver did not know how to get me to the Freethielstadion in Beveren. I didn’t know the country, the city, nor the language - but I was excited for the jump into the unknown.
I’ve seen almost everything you can in football these past four years: Building a club after the pandemic alongside colleagues who became friends, living through a relegation and fighting to bring a club back into the top flight, successfully writing history and reclaiming a part of our past in reviving the SK Beveren name - I’ve shed tears of joy and despair, something I didn’t expect when I accepted this challenge.
It’s difficult to step aside from a job you love, in the sport you grew up your whole life wanting to play - but my decision was an easy one. I’ve given what I can give to the club, its employees, and most importantly its fans; and now I want to give my time to those that are with me outside of the workplace.
I’d like to thank Isaac Harrouche, David Blitzer, Scott Krase and the entire team of partners at Global Football Holdings for bringing me onboard as the youngest CEO in European football 4 years ago. The club we’ve built off the pitch is a model for others in Belgium, and it is in great thanks to your continued support to professionalize and invest in efficient structures, something unfortunately rarely done in football.
I’d also like to thank Bart Foubert, Brandon De Clercq, Begoña Santiago Ramos and Ignacio Beristain Borra for being by my side the last years, finding ways to build a structure and grow in an industry that isn’t always the most stable or long-term oriented. The challenges we had to face were not for the faint of heart, and I could not have done it without you all.
I can’t wait to come back for a match as a supporter, but in the meantime I’m looking forward to finding balance outside of football before starting my next challenge in an entirely different industry.
