Last Thursday we went to London to celebrate the end of programme event for our Finance Leader of the Future programme!

Leaders of the Future

  • The programme was for our talented Finance colleagues who needed leadership experience to help them secure their next role.
  • The programme was run across three cohorts: London, Southwest and Scotland and consisted of 4 modules covering a range of different leadership topics culminating in the end of programme event last week in London!

The Celebration Event

The celebration event was a great day filled with opportunities for all the cohorts to get to know each other and build their network. We started the day with some speed networking to get them thinking about how they were going to continue their leadership journey and share their learnings with their teams but and also across their division.

We were then joined by members of our extended leadership team, where and the participants were able to share their thoughts on what they could do differently in their divisions.

After the jam-packed morning we had a very exciting afternoon, after starting with some great discussions around our culture and how they as future leaders could drive the change, we were then lucky enough to be joined by William Chalmers, Chief Financial Officer.

William shared his invaluable insight and knowledge of how to be an effective leader and what he looks for in his leadership team. We were then joined by two members of the Leadership team - Daniel Meredith Jones jones and Chris Edis who answered lots of great questions on what being a leader means to them and shared lots of great hints and tips for our future leaders!

Thanks to all the speakers that came along and brought so much to the final event, and congratulations to all the fantastic participants for being so engaging engaged throughout the programme! #leadership #finance #development #lloydsbankinggroup   Matt Taylor

Last week Lauren Moncrieff and I ran the second module for Women in Finance Ready Now Assistant Manager programme and split our time between two of our locations in Bristol and Edinburgh!   Once again, we had a fully packed day with us using our creative and imagination skills in a slightly Christmassy icebreaker (is it too soon for that?) and then started the day with a session on Emotional Intelligence.   Emotional intelligence is the ability to identify and regulate one's emotions and understand the emotions the others, something we want all our leaders to have, so this was an important session for us to start with! If you want to find out more about Emotional Intelligence, I’d definitely recommend Daniel Goleman either on Youtube or by reading one of his books.   We were then joined by Saibh Young (Group Tax Director) in Bristol and Jenny Smith (Finance Director) who talked us through their experiences of what a good pitch looks like. It was new to all in the room, so we did a lot of practice, practice, practice to ensure everyone felt more comfortable with it!   Then it was time for lunch, another great opportunity for networking. The Bristol hub ran a careers fair at the same time, so a really great chance to build those networks and find out more about the great career opportunities across Finance.   We were then very lucky to have been joined by Rebecca James Kath Terry) & Margaret Scarborough (alumni of the Women in Finance E programme) who came and shared their experiences of being a woman in Finance. It was a really great session which provided great insight into how the E programme had helped support them in their career progression!   We then moved into the last part of the day focusing on effective networking and great conversations. We focused a lot of the afternoon on networking, not just how to do it but also making sure we maintain it. We can all be guilty of going to a networking event, thinking it was great that you met someone but not doing anything afterwards to keep that relationship going! Everyone was asked to create their stakeholder map and think about how they were going to bridge any gaps and how they can help each other.   We ended the day with great conversations, thinking about how we can make sure that we’re having them. We wanted everyone to be reflective of the conversations they’re having now and take away tangible actions that can support them and their teams to have better conversations.   Both events were great, and both rooms were full of energy! Thanks to all those who joined and again thanks to all our speakers.   We’re doing something a little different for the next module and running it virtually with some external guests in February!
