Arafat Jamal

Arafat Jamal is a senior United Nations official with over twenty-five years of international experience in emergencies, complex operations, partnerships, resettling refugees, humanitarian diplomacy, and policy formulation and evaluation.

Currently, he serves as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Representative to South Sudan, managing one of UNHCR's largest and most challenging operations.

His previous roles include Head of UNHCR's Partnership and Coordination Service, overseeing collaboration with UN, civil society, NGO, and sports partners.

Arafat has extensive experience in managing displacement emergencies in various regions and is an author of papers focusing on refugee protection, resettlement implications, and long-term exile.

He holds a Master's in Forced Migration from the University of Oxford, a BA in History, and a BSc in Urban and Regional Studies from Cornell University.
