Highlights
Years ago I stopped focusing on traditional marketing and instead focused on fostering meaningful relationships.
This shift felt like I was cheating. Could I really spend work hours deep in conversation over coffee or a walk? Could the thing that comes most naturally to me, really be what's best for my business? Could I position friendship over competition and look to collaboration as a source of energy and delight?
We discussed as a leadership team and decided to lean into this more values aligned way to grow our business.
I don't know if spending our time on sales funnels and social media campaigns could have worked better to grow Flight Design Co, I didn't have the energy to do an AB Test :)
But I do know . . . I have built the most incredible network and . . . Flight Design Co. keeps growing year after year and . . . 95% of our new work comes from referrals
I believe in the power of community. In symbiotic relationships of championing and support. In being a connector through a constellation of amazing humans that I want everyone to know.
The last couple weeks I had the privilege of meeting with some of the bright ones! I learned . . .
✨ Donají Mejía is building incredible brands and websites for visionary WOC and also is as obsessed with gardening as me.
✨ Sarah Jutras is designing experiences both digitally and in the real world and also knows the cutest Japanese tea house in the East Bay (Blue Willow Teaspot)
✨ Lindsay T. just opened her second inclusive playspace in Berkeley and this is only the beginning.
✨ Leia Mitchell is open to work in Operations/Project Management and I know she's gonna land somewhere soon cause she's a gift to any team.
✨ Kristin Belden is supporting mission driven orgs through big moments of growth and transition and has fully realized the gift of self-employment.
The way we combat a culture of isolation is building a collective, one relationship at a time. If you're craving community our August networking meet up is next Friday. Come join us! https://lnkd.in/giEArQuE
In 2010, I started a blog. This was the first time I shared writing in any public way aside from grad school papers and the most delicious love letters. It helped me make sense of the world. Writing always does. But every time I would come up with an idea for something to write about, I would need it to have meaning, to make a point. I wouldn’t share until I’d come to the other side and was able to say, “See, this is the wisdom from this hard thing.”
I don’t write like that anymore.
