Highlights
Despite the Crowdstrike outage not being a cyberattack, this is going to cause customers to think twice (and thrice) about consolidating their security products through a single vendor. Customers will continue to maintain products across multiple vendors, not just for efficacy, and those products will need to work seamlessly together.
Everyday I'm asked the same question…
Can I get a toy today? My oldest has been fascinated with the LEGO Group lately and wants every set of the Lego City collection.
My answer is more often no than yes, and when it's yes, he can't always get the big set he wants.
Last week I decided he was old enough to start learning why we can’t buy toys all the time or always buy the biggest set. It was a brief lesson in personal finance and I threw out a few options for how he could make money on his own.
He quickly decided to set up a lemonade stand and his brain started assessing the critical business questions and trade-offs:
Where should the stand be? He knew he needed a location with enough foot traffic to capture demand and decided that a local park would be a good spot.
How much should we sell each cup for? While $5 per cup would quickly get him the Lego set he wants, he also realized that might be too expensive. $1 per cup might be more appealing to his target customers.
He thought through all the ingredients he needed, including cups, ice, and a cooler to keep the lemonade cold for his customers (maybe our next lesson will be about margins 😉).
I never thought I’d be the parent at a lemonade stand, but seeing him resist the urge to buy one now and save his earnings for a bigger set (while giving some to charity) made the investment well worth it!
