As summer winds down, I'm thrilled to share that I'm starting a new position as a Research Fellow at The Reach Alliance! The Reach Alliance is a research initiative founded in 2015 at the University of Toronto - Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy, in partnership with the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth. In this role, I'll be leading AI development and research on how Conversational AI can enhance financial literacy for migrant workers in Singapore. This opportunity beautifully combines my passion for technology, social impact, and cross-cultural collaboration. I'm excited to leverage my experience in AI and background in mental health tech, working alongside my amazing peers, Alexander, Caroline, Gigi and Professor Andrew Koh to drive meaningful change in a new capacity! Looking forward to this new chapter and the impact we can create together. If you're interested in AI for social good or have insights on financial literacy initiatives, I'd love to connect!

“Why Beijing?” This question was posed by many peers as I prepared for my internship in China's capital. To be honest, I shared similar doubts. But Beijing called to me as a challenge – a chance to push beyond my comfort zone, test my Mandarin skills in a real-world setting, and witness first-hand the rapid pace of innovation in China's tech scene. Now, as my internship at DayDayUp has come to a close, I can say it was one of the most transformative experiences of my life. From navigating tech discussions in Mandarin to connecting with locals over shared meals, every day brought new experiences that broadened my perspective on culture, identity, and innovation as a Singaporean with Mauritian roots. One moment stands out: a 5-year-old girl pointing at me in a restaurant and yelling “Hey mum, it's a foreigner!” What could have been fairly awkward turned into a heart-warming dinner with her family, exchanging stories about Singapore and China. It's these unexpected connections that made my time in Beijing truly special. There's too much to share in a single post, so I've written an article about my journey on my website, https://lnkd.in/gJCcVqvX.
I'm deeply grateful to Yiqun Bo and Bella Qu at DayDayUp for their mentorship, SMU Global Innovation Immersion by IIE and Jac (Sze Hui) for this opportunity, and the Andy Chua & Family China Innovation Immersion Award for enabling my cultural immersion. To anyone considering an internship abroad: take the leap! The challenges you'll face and the growth you'll experience are invaluable. A special shoutout to my friends, Tham Ya, Jonte Lee, Rochelle Chong Li Han, Aurora Tang Sher Yee, Dongyue Lyu, Elliot N., Nadiya D. Jayasaputra, and Alicia for the unforgettable adventures we shared. Here's to embracing challenges and continuing to learn and grow, wherever in the world we find ourselves! #smugii #iienovate #internshipabroad
