It is with a very heavy heart I announce today the decision to shut down Vitamin. As the tech ecosystem and the world at large are undergoing a dramatic correction, we faced obstacles that I didn’t believe we could overcome with our current team and resources.
It is incredibly sad to see this as the culmination of a 3-year journey to power strong financial futures for all women. In a world where there is a 30% wealth gap between men and women and 73% of women are dissatisfied with existing financial products, I am convinced that a focused fintech product centered on women’s needs must and will exist. I hope the work we did showed a tiny bit of that path forward.
We must also face the existing power structures of capital allocation in our ecosystem. Without a doubt, much is still to be done on the topic of implicit biases.
Most importantly, the financial industry needs to come to terms with the biggest challenge it faces amongst women - a profound lack of trust. We can only fix this by deeply engaging with women and listening to their needs. Therefore, I am hugely grateful to the thousands of women who trusted us, gave feedback, and showed support for our work 🙌 Starting from a simple question 3 years ago - why does a wealth gap exist? - to a fully-fledged product, women showed us that the combination of financial literacy and financial products in a single place is the way forward.
It really does take a village and I am hugely grateful to the hundreds of people who knowingly or unknowingly helped nothing more than an idea I had to blossom into what Vitamin became: — the team for all the learnings you provided 🙇 — the existing investors for all the experience you shared 🙏 — supporters, partners, and collaborators for your belief in our vision 🤝
