New briefing for business from Oxfam, “Right-sizing Corporate Voice”
Progress on inequality, climate change and many of the other Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are painfully slow or headed in the wrong direction. Inequality in political engagement is exacerbating these problems. Businesses dominate the policymaking process, mostly prioritize short-term financial interests and provide minimal transparency, creating an inherent risk of corporate policy capture. In response, a new briefing for business from Oxfam, “Right-sizing Corporate Voice”, provides a roadmap for businesses to put respect for human rights at the center of their lobbying and advocacy. It shows both the challenges but also emerging good practice, and provides concrete actions for businesses for responsible advocacy. Check the report out, and let us know what you think. See here a blog introducing the new briefing for business, Right-sizing Corporate Voice.
In my purely personal capacity, I have and will be protesting at my Russian embassy against the Russian invasion of Ukraine, have written to my legislators asking for a stronger response and have provided some donations to good causes in Ukraine. I know these are small things and I would love ideas for more things, but these are small acts to express my solidarity with the people of Ukraine. I only write this as a way to encourage more people around the world to show their solidarity.
