Ashley Carter

Ashley Carter is an Associate Professor at Amherst College running the Carter Laboratory, where she oversees a team of undergraduates engaged in various biophysics and optics projects. These projects include building a low-cost acoustic trap for cell manipulation, studying neurosensory circuits in zebrafish using light stimulation, and analyzing DNA molecule structure changes when folding proteins are introduced. Ashley also teaches four physics courses annually, with a focus on Maker Optics and Electronics. She is known for her innovative approach to laboratory teaching, including the introduction of '3D, plug and play' experiments. Ashley holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Michigan and a Doctor of Philosophy in Physics from the University of Colorado. Previously, she served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Harvard University.
