"Something weird and beautiful is happening in New York City."

Kasey Klimes writes insightfully about the evolution of NYC's distinctive tech culture and how -- while it may not be bigger than SF / Silicon Valley -- it may be more interesting and more attuned to what people actually need.

Certainly, when it comes to Urban Tech, I would argue NYC is the leader.

Anyone who has flown into NYC at night and marveled at that breathtaking skyline will appreciate this love note to New York & photography & maps in Bloomberg CityLab by Thomas J. Campanella, who writes...

"In The Practice of Everyday Life, the French scholar Michel de Certeau observed that street-bound citizens cannot know the city as a whole; they navigate it as blindly “as lovers in each other’s arms.” These “ordinary practitioners of the city,” as he put it, live below the threshold of visibility, plying the “thicks and thins of an urban text they write without being able to read it.” The aerial view changed this; it gave the Wandersmänner wings and a mirror."
