Highlights
Aside from the run, I had such a blast doing the #Ironman 70.3 St. George this weekend. The House of the Lord, the blue water and red sand of Sand Hollow Reservoir, the hilly country and steep climb up Snow Canyon, and the run around historic St. George made memories I'll never forget.
I'm grateful to my old mission companion Zachary Queen (the founder of My Data Removal, which you should all use) for joining me on the race; to Devin Mattson (the co-founder of ETHIK, which you should also all use) for committing me to do this last fall; to my coach Trista Francis, ATC who is pro level not only in her athleticism and knowledge of the sport, but also as a teacher and motivator; and to Peak State Fit, LLC in Salt Lake City for guiding me to the bike of my dreams.
Incorporating physical work and accomplishment into my daily life has been a life saver. Who wants to join for the next one, and where should we go??
Really enjoyed reading Stephen Wunker's new book The Innovative Leader, co-authored by Jennifer Luo Law and Hari Nair. They are remarkable thinkers and practitioners, and have carefully researched a fresh set of contemporary case studies on how to truly drive innovation sustainably and successfully.
Key takeaways for me included:
-
Innovation is a means to an end
-
Innovation thrives in structure
-
An organization needs a CREATE leader as the foundation of an innovation culture (Connected, Role model, Evolving, Audacious, Three-sixty thinker, and Enabler), then to programmatically pursue the aspiration (vision), building (operating), and cultivation (aligned incentives) to foster innovation
