Earlier this week on International Women's Day (3/8), I had a manager hand off meeting, as I'm moving internally to a new team. After the call (pictured below), I reflected on how fortunate I am to be going from one incredible female manager, Caroline Golding, to another incredible female manager, Leanne Johnson. As a woman and a mother, I have felt abundantly seen and supported at Google. I've thought about what has led me to feel this way and I keep coming back to gender equity in practice, not just word. I see women take up the majority of the room (virtual and irl) in every meeting. Google's marketing org is led by women at every level, starting at the very top. I see female leaders make significant impact to the company and their large teams, while also taking a 3pm run around the Embarcadero or rushing out for preschool pick up. During Women's History Month, I'm especially mindful of the great fortune I have to be surrounded by such talented, empathetic, intelligent, humble and inspiring women in all areas of my life. Women are exceptional and I'm so proud to be one and to raise one, and hopefully lift others along the way. #googlemarketing #lifeatgoogle #IWD #workingmother #teampixel

I have held on tight to a note that a friend and a mentor, Lara Toscani Weems gave me following my internship with the Philadelphia 76ers in the summer of 2017. On it, she writes, "You can be the mama and the bear at the same time. You can have it all." Those words have occupied my mind since I received them but have truly come to life this past year.

Almost one year ago, in the summer of 2021, I became a mom to the most perfect little peach, Georgia. I absolutely love being her mom! We have so much fun together. She is my entire world and nothing has given me more purpose or joy than being her mom.

In addition to my new role of “mom,” one of my goals for 2022 was to get back to work, and I’ve done so, gradually.

My dear friend Erika Mahterian founded an incredible brand, MCPMU, and in January, asked me to run their partnership with Nordstrom. Over the last six months, I’ve worked part-time, overseeing every aspect of the partnership: design, production, marketing, etc. We had huge success with our launch in Nordstrom, selling out online and in stores and then filling a reorder. I had a blast running social and witnessing the power of a community behind a brand. I was energized by this job and knew I was ready to take on more.

In March, I saw a job posting for Social Community Coordinator at Google, working on their Fitbit product. Every line on the job description resonated deeply, and I enthusiastically applied, crossing my fingers that I could bring this dream job to life.

And here we are! I'm extremely excited to share that I've begun the next chapter of my career, as both a mother and a Googler.

This new chapter will come with its inherent challenges, but will also come with great growth and opportunity. Yes, I cried real tears down my face when Georgia’s babysitter picked her up for the first time on Monday. But then I jumped on a team meeting and felt so much excitement to be part of such a fantastic team!

I'm so grateful for those who have supported me to this point in my career journey. Thank you to Caroline Golding and Jay Newell for taking a chance on me; to Erika Mahterian for teaching me so much about community building; to Brit Harding for encouraging me to go after my dreams and for fiercely supporting our partnership in life and parenting; thank you to our sweet girl for being strong, easy-going and independent.

I could have only dreamed this reality up, and cannot wait to see what the future will hold! Here’s to being the mama and the bear at the same time!
