As I reflect on today’s 61st anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, I have so many thoughts but I’ll leave you with this.

While I am no longer affiliated with Fearless Fund, (y)our collective fight continues. We still have far too much collective lack…. …Lack of resources …Lack of knowledge …Lack of network …Lack of access …Lack of courage …Lack of opportunity

🗣️ Make sure you find ways — big and small — in your companies, your circles and your communities to BE the change you want to see.

Many people see these lawsuits filed by the American Alliance for Equal Rights (AAER) and do not understand what they are truly about. Ed Blum and AAER have instilled fear and intimidation through their actions challenging all race-conscious decision making in America.

What this work is about is dismantling the very fabric of America.

This country was founded on principles of democracy where everyone should have equal access and opportunity, where everyone should have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. These values are at the very root of economic freedom yet we know that the majority of Americans are not free and still can only “dream” of one day achieving the American dream.

This is why affirmative action was in place in higher education, this is why corporate DEI commitments are so needed, this is why leadership and workforce development for underrepresented talent is needed — because we live in a country where we say we value #equality yet we have no #equity.

Equality is a promise — a promise that everyone should have equal rights, access and opportunity. Equity is about whether or not that promise is fulfilled.

Ed Blum’s tireless work neglects the real and lasting systemic effects of slavery in this country, and suggests that the American dream should be only for the chosen few. But who is he to try to make that decision, especially in light of all of the inequities that exist across education, healthcare, business and government?

Make no mistake: I stand for and am deeply committed to #inclusiveleadership and achieving equity in this country.
