Bagus Nugroho

University Lecturer at University of Melbourne

Bagus Nugroho is a Lecturer and certified thermographer at the University of Melbourne with a rich background in fluid mechanics and experimental turbulent flow. His expertise lies in flow control and flow over roughness, particularly biofouling. Previously, he worked as a research fellow at the University of Southampton, leading a multinational research team studying the impact of biofouling on operational ships. He holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne, focusing on turbulent boundary layer flow control through innovative riblet type surface roughness. His research aimed to manipulate turbulent flow efficiently, avoiding additional form-drags commonly associated with traditional vortex generators. Bagus also broadened his skills by pursuing diplomas in commercialization and nanotechnology during his PhD studies at prestigious institutions like Melbourne Business School and Oxford University. Notably, he conducted research at JAXA, testing a supersonic Mars parachute. Bagus completed his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Science (Physics) at the University of Melbourne, gaining practical experience through internships at industry-leading companies like Garuda Indonesia Maintenance Facility, Indonesian Aerospace, and Daimler Mercedes-Benz. Beyond academics and work, he actively contributed to various clubs and societies, serving as the president of PPI Australia, the largest Indonesian student association abroad.
