Barbara Taylor

Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases and Assistant Dean for the MD/MPH Program

Dr. Barbara Taylor is an accomplished Assistant Professor of Infectious Disease and the Assistant Dean for the MD/MPH Program at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio with co-appointments at the University of Texas School of Public Health and the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

She pursued her education at prestigious institutions including Princeton University for her Bachelor of Arts in Molecular Biology and International Affairs, Harvard Medical School for her Doctor of Medicine (MD), and Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health for her Master of Science (M.S.) in Epidemiology.

Her academic journey includes a Fulbright Scholarship in Mexico focusing on indoor air pollution and its effects on women and children's health, a medical residency at Columbia University Medical Center/New York Presbyterian Hospital, and fellowship in Infectious Diseases.

Dr. Taylor's research focuses on breaking down barriers to healthcare and enhancing outcomes for underserved communities living with HIV in the U.S. and Latin America, emphasizing structural hindrances and the interplay of HIV with conditions like diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases.

Apart from her research, she is actively involved in teaching global health, as well as providing patient care at various healthcare facilities in San Antonio, including the University Health System's Downtown HIV treatment center, University Hospital, and the Audie Murphy Memorial VA Hospital.

In her free time, Dr. Taylor is dedicated to community service, serving on the board of Leadership San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) and enjoys activities like biking, yoga, CrossFit, and theater with her family.
