Highlights
A few people have contacted me over the last few months because I haven't been active in a professional capacity and were wondering what’s up, so thought it best to give an update.
If you have met me in the last 10 years you will be aware that I live with Parkinsons Disease, a neuro-degenerative condition that effects my movement, work/life productivity and frankly, sucks.
If you know me, then you might also be aware that nearly 2 years ago I moved from the hustle and bustle of London to St. Leonards-on-sea where life is usually a lot calmer.
I say usually because, for the last 6 months my flat has undergone a complete renovation which can be stressful in itself. However, if you add tradesmen to the mix, which I'll just say, don't quite follow the principles of the Agile manifesto for Software Development, the stress levels are multiplied.
So, rather than be ripped off any further I decided to manage the renovations myself, which are thankfully near to completion.
More importantly, having been on the waiting list for a procedure called Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for two years, this time next week I’ll be in the operating theatre in the capable hands of some of the world's best neurosurgeons.
In a few weeks time, I'm hoping that this surgery will give me the new lease of life it has done for hundreds, if not thousands of other people who, like me, have Parkinson's. That being the case, you’ll be hearing a lot more from me again 😊.
I announced earlier this year, SEACON will be taking a year off. Well, I’d like to organise a final event to take place in Q1 2025 – It’s a lot of people’s favourite conference and it deserves a last hurrah!
If anyone is interested in sponsoring SEACON, let me know.
And of course, the climate crisis is getting worse by the day, so OurTechLegacy.org will be my main focus and I’d be interested in speaking to anyone who wants to help reduce technologies impact on our planet. Goodbye for now. Barry
