Highlights
At FreeYourMusic we have hired few months ago a new developer.
It turned out his whole identity was fake and the whole premise of his working was to extract as much as he could from our company, to use as a blackmail. It was multiple people working under the same identity, so we believe it’s organised group trying to extort companies for money.
When we learned about his fake identity, we immediately fired him, and canceled his accesses. They are now blackmailing us to pay them a ransom, otherwise they will leak everything that he can.
They only had access to our source code without production data or users data, as well as recordings they made of all our meetings (without our prior knowledge).
We are submitting as much evidence as we can now to Estonian police, but I do not expect anything happening with it. They used fake IDs to pass KYC with the invoicing company, and they use multiple identities.
For what we have learned these are the data we have on the identities they are using:
Alexandr Negrea https://lnkd.in/dBc79kFK
Alejandro Esteban Castro Howez https://lnkd.in/dQvj6Rpy
Number he used +372 602 7785 Emails he is using:
[email protected] [email protected]
The invoicing company he used: “As part of our process, we work with a third-party KYC service called Sumsub. This service requires successful ID verification before a freelancer can use our system and receive payment. Alejandro Esteba Castro Howez passed his ID verification on the first try with his Argentinian ID from Argentina (not Tallinn or Hong Kong), which allowed him to add a Payoneer account and receive payment. “
You can see that his profiles mention that he worked either at FreeYourMusic or Soundizz etc. I believe there will be more fake profiles coming up with similar experience.
I can see the whole remote work scam working like this:
- Fake profiles
- Get hired under fake credentials
- Work and pocket money until it blows apart
- Blackmail with leaking whatever you could have extracted
Two fake profiles I could find were these: Alexandr Negrea https://lnkd.in/dBc79kFK Alejandro Esteban Castro Howez https://lnkd.in/dQvj6Rpy
Who know how many more
