Bas Beekman is an accomplished professional with a background in Urban and Regional Planning.
He earned his Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Amsterdam.
Throughout his career, Bas has held various significant roles in the City of Amsterdam, including Program Director at StartupAmsterdam and Chairman of the SCALE cities network.

It started with some very useful advices and insights from the Women.NYC program and the NYC Small Busines Services department - for example how working with all kinds of unexpected parties, such as the Yankees, can support entrepreneurs in their challenges, but also how you support local entrepreneurship through municipal purchasing policy. Thanks so much Diana Franco, Kitty Chan, Sofia Mussa and Parker Sheedy.
We then had the honor of speaking to the very inspiring Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer at City Hall. The challenges in cities like New York and Amsterdam are very similar -housing, quality of life, how to use tech in the right way, tourism etc. I especially like her approach to a more inclusive innovation economy. in short 1. more incubators in the suburbs of NYC 2. offering training, education, mentorships 3. supporting founders that are diverse. The goal is therefore to spread economic activity more across NYC. Their focus on innovation districts that should offer opportunities for every New Yorker ("not only nerds") is also very interesting, as is the emphasis that New York increasingly places on stimulating Sustainable Tech to reduce the carbon footprint. From our Tech:NYC friends, we learned that many of the city's Tech companies are increasingly willing to invest in local talent, regardless of their education level. "The companies should reflect the population more". Tech NYC does this, among other things, by "selling the dream of Tech" to young people aged 16-17 at high schools. Great talking to you Tyler S. Finally, we ended day 2 with a visit to the great Silicon Harlem, who play an important role in the neighborhood as a connector. With their programs they contribute to the digitization of the neighborhood. very beautiful and inspiring to see and it was great to see the inspiring Mr. Clayton Banks again!
