Highlights
A year ago today, I walked into the Four Seasons head office for my first day. I worried about what to wear, and I arrived an hour early, unsure of the traffic between Kitchener and North York. Sitting in the lobby I watched my now coworkers come in, wondering if I'd fit in.
Then, Kate Hyland walked in, who had been part of my interview process and I immediately felt like I had a friend. She was smart and warm during the interview, and I felt like we'd work well together, so when I saw her, I felt more at ease. I'm also pretty sure I shouted "KATE HI, I'M HERE!" at an obnoxiously loud level, but she graciously came over and welcomed me to Four Seasons.
And, I wasn't wrong. Kate and I have gotten to work on some interesting projects and problems together, but we've also become great friends, and the year has flown by. I've been reminded this year, again, that it's the people you work with that make all the difference in your job love. So a little Monday post to thank Kate, and so many others for making my first year at Four Seasons memorable.
I kickstarted my morning with a coffee and conversation with Jimmy Furlano, who is a builder, problem-solver and all around stellar human. Jimmy is constantly ahead of his time, persistent, smart and most of all - passionate about his work. Each time we've met, he inspires me to work smarter, to go that extra little bit and to have fun along the way.
It got me thinking how I show up to people and how I do my job, questioning "the way it is" and figuring out unique ways to push the digital lines, bringing experiences to life and inspiring customer journeys. It also reminded me how important human connection is, and finding people to be inspired by, even when you're not working together day-to-day.
So, if you're reading this and you have a person like this in your life - send them a little thank you note, or tag them here for some LinkedIn callouts. Let's inspire something great today, together. And if you don't know Jimmy, you're missing out - he'll solve a problem for you!
