When Amy Shoenthal asked me if I'd share my severance story with her for Fast Company, I immediately said "Sure." Not because it's a good one, but because I hope that in sharing my failures and flops, I might help others.

For me, getting fired wasn't fun (at all). But it led to the launching of The Adventure Project. Which turned into the best gift.

I know LinkedIn is supposed to be a spot for accolades and accomplishments. But, I think it's important for others to know that not everything is a highlight reel. Most of the best people I know are not defined by their setbacks, but by how they handled them.

Do you have a setback that turned into a defining moment? I'd love to know.

And thanks Amy Shoenthal for including me. Friends, you can pick up Amy's USA Today Bestselling book, The Setback Cycle in the link in my comments. ;)
