Highlights
Alright, I'm going to drop some lore because this is a big one for me! 🎉
If you know me at all, you know my career-heart has always belonged in EdTech. I realized the spark was lit when I got to work with the brilliant-hilarious-headstrong Laurie L. and the wonderful-kind-empathetic Johanna Doblado McCormick; together, we built a remarkable team at Khan Academy that loves its users and believes in a free, world-class education for all.
Fast forward to mid-2023: I was laid off from a role I loved with people I loved even more at Microverse (my beloved #TeamFeral: Andrea Funda, Marco Lizza, Maggie Mellon, Kiana A.) where we all worked towards the democratization of a global and more accessible adult software education. While heartbreaking, I knew deep down it was a sign to move on.
The 12 months that followed were harrowing-- the remote job market became a minefield of rejections and ghosting, endless applications and drawn-out interview processes. Quite frankly, there were roles I simply didn't connect with to the same level of passion I held for EdTech, and having to balance my passion with my need for employment has been one of the hardest things I've had to do to this day.
Now, enter stage right: ClassDojo. I've had my sights set on ClassDojo since 2021, when my good friend Tracee Miller, PhD first told me about them. I felt in my bones this is where I was meant to go, and getting to know Cristin Q. in a series of heartfelt, candid, mind-melding Zoom calls only confirmed it.
And now, with all that context, please know I'm genuinely thrilled to announce I've started a new role as Customer Experience Lead at ClassDojo! I am so excited to be joining Dojo on this wild ride to transform education and, specifically, to serve Dojo Tutor's families and help give every child on Earth an education they love. ✨
Last year brought me the shake-up of a lifetime: Around July, I was laid off from an ed-tech role I loved deeply (but was, in truth, stagnant in), and found myself unemployed for the first time in 8 years.
I felt like a hapless newborn in the post-apocalyptic wasteland that is this job market, submitting applications with little-to-no response; every shoulder I tapped on feeling like a dead end. It became so difficult that I found myself doubting my personal and professional competencies like never before.
It's been a difficult conversation to have, both with myself and with others, so I shied away from engaging on LinkedIn. In hindsight, I should have been more transparent and proactive here to build more momentum, but truth is that I've had little expendable energy to do so.
On the note of the New Year and new beginnings, it's now the second week of January and I'm starting a role I'm so, so keen on.
If you know anything about me, it's that I have high standards and expectations for any role I take on. From the bottom of my heart, I am truly excited and grateful to announce my new position as Customer Success Manager at MailerLite.
I can't wait to join the #lovemyjob gang.
