Recently, I've been diving deep into the world of Apple Vision Pro and decided to get a bit experimental. Together with Cherri Hartigan, we crafted a social space called "Poolview". It all started when the AVP seemed a bit lonely, and we wanted to see who was around.
Initially, we crafted a 2D user interface reminiscent of Twitter. But as more users joined, they craved something more immersive - an actual "Pool" experience! That's when it hit me: I needed to step into the realm of 3D design and create an MVP for a Spatial environment. Here are 5 key takeaways from this exhilarating journey:

Juggling multiple realities: Crafting experiences for #Poolview meant juggling multiple realities. Users expected both semi-immersive and fully-immersive environments, challenging me to balance 2D classic product design user elements and functionality with graphic immersive elements.

Literal and figurative talk became one: Talk about a literal dive! "Poolview" wasn't just a name; users hilariously demanded an actual pool. 😄 From 2D beginnings to 3D dreams: Starting with traditional 2D features like chat walls, we swiftly adapted to meet users' desires for a fully immersive experience. Suddenly, I found myself dabbling in Blender and architecture, all while toggling between #Figma and #Blender in a week!

It's all about the vibe! Crafting #Poolview wasn't just about visuals; it was about creating an environment where users could truly immerse themselves. From ambient sounds to architectural nuances, every detail mattered.

2D became 3D and 3D became 4D (mind explosion) Blurring the lines between traditional 2D design and immersive environments was a huge learning opportunity. In #Poolview, users have now three different modals of reality semi-inmersive (2D functional UI), the second reality mode is fully immersive and finally both at the same time. So this meant that all of the sudden your body is the center of stage there is no divide between the spectator and screen.

Social networks start with mutual connections but what happens when this mutual bond is disrupted? With a pool of users, both figuratively and literally, there's immense potential to enhance interactions and foster deeper social bonds (we are still in the process of learning how to incentivize social conversations in a space where everyone is a stranger.) With this WIP we are interested in cracking how to foster quality of conversations instead of quantity of conversations.
