Bem Asen is a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience in spearheading growth and advancement within underprivileged communities in Nigeria.
His expertise encompasses various pivotal developmental areas including Poverty Alleviation, Gender & Vulnerability Mainstreaming, Ageing, Public Health, Nutrition, Sustainable Agriculture & Social Entrepreneurship.
In his role as an Operations Officer at the Community and Social Development Project under the World Bank, Bem has overseen the implementation of projects in more than 35 communities and 25 gender and vulnerable groups in Benue State, Nigeria.
Some notable achievements include establishing specialized facilities like an eye clinic, motorized borehole, tricycles, and walking sticks for the visually impaired in the Mbaikyor Poor Blind Group. Additionally, initiatives like the school fee waiver program, rice milling factory, and school construction have significantly impacted the Opyotu Widows Group.
In the Mbaakov Community, Bem's contributions include procuring classroom furniture, building teacher staff quarters, hand-dug water wells, hospital equipment, and implementing a sustainable drug revolving scheme.
Furthermore, in the Atseshan community, he led the construction of a health clinic with staff quarters and a triple box culvert to enhance community mobility.
Bem Asen is also a co-founder of the Ageing Forward foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to Ageing Research, Policy, Advocacy, and Stakeholder Accountability.
His responsibilities within the foundation encompass strategic planning, fundraising, and stakeholder management.
Moreover, Bem has founded Harvestify Technology, stemming from his PhD thesis in Post Harvest Technology specialized in Fish Processing.
The primary focus of Harvestify Technology revolves around post-harvest management, sustainability, policy reform, and investment value in the Agricultural sector in Nigeria.
Bem Asen's educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Post Harvest Management Technology with Fish Specialization from Benue State University, a Master of Science (MSc) in Public Health Parasitology from the University of Ilorin, a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Zoology/Animal Biology from the University of Agriculture Makurdi, and a Master's degree in Global Ageing and Policy from the University of Southampton.
Throughout his career, Bem has held key positions such as Project Officer for Labour Intensive Public Workfare and Environmental & Social Safeguard Management at the Community and Social Development Agency in Benue State, a PhD Fellowship in Fish Post Harvest Technology at the Centre for Food Technology and Research, and Operations Officer focusing on Gender and Vulnerability at the Community and Social Development Agency in Benue State, both being World Bank-assisted projects.
