Highlights
Summer wasn’t all fun in the sun for growth, is a dark winter on the horizon? To find out, we looked at The Paddle SaaS Market Report which tracks the underlying growth of 34,000 companies using ProfitWell Metrics.
Summer is historically a rough time for both B2B and B2C. After a rough June, B2B CAGR is up to 11.5%, closely in line with the average we can expect for the rest of 2024.
B2C looks pretty dismal at first with a -9.5% CAGR in July. This summer has seen a dip of 375% in aggregate MRR since May, but it’s not as bleak as it seems. Last summer saw a 200% dip in the same period and the summer before saw a 500% dip. There was even an 86% drop during the boom of 2021!
Seasonality is to be expected and we’re expecting a solid rebound to continue after this summer. We’ll keep monitoring these trends closely but for more insights and a detailed analysis, check out the full Paddle SaaS Market Report and stay tuned for our next update.
Did you know when you purchase an app you’re paying the app store, not the app company? Here’s why:
Apple has nearly 5 million apps on their store. That’s millions of opportunity for payment processing, fraud, refunds, and not to mention sales tax. That’s risky!
So Apple takes on that risk in exchange for 30% of each transaction.
In some ways they serve as a Merchant of Record. But there’s still risk that apps have to take on that apple doesn’t cover.
A good Merchant of Record reduces churn through smart retries of credit cards, offers pricing flexibility, especially for our B2B buds, and more options for packaging.
A Merchant of Record costs more than just a billing system because a Merchant of Record does more than just a billing system.
If you wanna know more, we made longer video over on Paddle Studios about this so go check that out now.
