His educational background includes a Juris Doctor (JD) from Tulane University Law School, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Comparative Literature from Harvard University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Comparative Literature from Columbia University in the City of New York.

He has also served as a Federal Judicial Intern at United States Courts and as a Senior Scholar-in-Residence at Rhodes University and Oregon State University.
