"Hardware advancements have solved the data volume and performance issue, while database software developments (PostgreSQL, ParadeDB, DuckDB) have addressed access method challenges. This puts the fundamental assumptions of the analytics sector — the so-called “big data” industry — under scrutiny."

This statement only makes it worth reading this blog post. Over the past two decades being active in the software industry, I've seen over and over again how easy it is to add complexity to existing systems. The adagium I've come to appreciate is: work with boring technology.

The statement above implies the same thing: building redundant systems? We had technology for that in the late 80ies (e.g. RAID). You need OLAP? Well, probably you don't need the complex and expensive stack you are currently working with.

In my view, many of our modern workplace place challenges are organisational challenges and not technological challenges. Reducing technical complexity might give you some breath space for addressing organisational challenges. You will need the right level of #technicalleadersip for this though!

Thanks Jasper Bal for bringing this to my attention.

Lift off! Just seconds ago the 2024 edition of #fullstackconference started. A nice mix of all IT specialisms represented both in the crowd and in the program. A great expression of our passion for #knowledgesharing in the Conflux network. Looking forward to the opening keynote of Hitesh Chellaney!
